Here is a little bit more about the story written by Christina Conn, that will air tonight! Channel 3 at 6:30PM…If you get a chance please watch!
Our family will be featured and discussed on a 30 minute special on KCRA Channel 3 at 6:30 PM (Saturday) called. “’Common Ground’ Special: Conn Family Autism”. The show will center around the importance of early intervention, and detection, as well as possible links to causes. We are not ones for sensationalism (unless is about someone else – HAHA), but we can use our own family’s stats in a positive manner to draw and bring awareness about the issues families with Special Needs encounter, to destigmatize Autism in general, and especially to stress the importance of early intervention and detection. If we can bring awareness to even one family affected, or just to people in general, then job accomplished! If we, as parents, are forced to view ourselves on HD TV, (the old lady with the bad “wig” and 10 extra lbs – me, and the “guy in the fat suit” – said the dad), then hopefully someone will get something out of it! Our kids are adorable as usual however!
So sit back and enjoy and if you know of anyone that might benefit from some added knowledge, perspective, or words of encouragement with their own family, please let them know where to watch! We are all about AWARENESS, and INTERVENTION, so we greatly thank KCRA as a whole, and Deirdre Fitzpatrick for basically living and breathing “Conns”, as well as her right hand-man, camera expert “Mike”, Dr. Michael Chez for sending KCRA our way, and Brenda Bisharat Photography.

With the latest statistics for Autism Disorders being approximately 1 in every 91 children, and special needs in general being obviously much higher, it is important to recognize the signs, and know WHAT to do next for ANY child with special needs in order for them to have the best chance at success. As parents, you are your child’s best advocate! As professionals, you may be the one who can make help make a difference!
Here is the link to a sound bite of the special – Thanks in advance for your attention – we should also give a special shout-out to the importance of anti-anxiety medication for parents as well! Talk soon!
